“We didn’t have lamps at home and electricity to study in the evening.”
Despite the challenges posed by COVID-19, Fayçal, a JRS students living in Kounougou refugee camp, took the end-of-year baccalaureate exam at the beginning of August.
During the lockdown, JRS Chad, with the support of BPRM, accompanied teachers and students to prepare for the exam.
“We did home-based lessons and remote learning through a WhatsApp group. I got used to doing my exercises at home and, if I didn’t understand something, I asked my teacher during the home-based classes.”

Jiva Education offers products and services that promote global skills and Indian values among children. The organization runs a 10+2 school with over 1000 students. Jiva also publishes learning materials, with over 70 textbooks and educational titles and conducts workshops for students, teachers and parents.

Alumni Distinguished Speaker was Sarah Melton, from Walhalla Elementary, School District of Oconee County.
“During the COVID-19 period, schools were closed but the teachers did not stop transmitting knowledge to the students, and to prepare them for the exams taking place these days. All the teachers mobilised to raise awareness about the importance of continuing the academic year. Also, we prepared classes and distributed them, so the students could review them at home.”
Fatimé, a teacher in Kounougou refugee camp, accompanied refugee students to prepare for the end-of-the-year exam during the lockdown.
